Our story
Farley Nursery School was founded in 2006, when Sue was looking for a setting for her vision to open an Outdoor Nursery School based on the Scandinavian approach to early years education. Sue had become disillusioned with mainstream reception classes in school, where the children have an allocated time, typically ten minutes, twice a day to play outside. It was her goal to return to the traditional childhood values of healthy outdoors play that she had experienced. Sue and Gary opened Farley in April 2006 with just five children. Word soon spread and within a year, there was a dedicated baby unit, complete with coach built prams for the babies to sleep in – outside of course!
After six years, we have grown into a firmly established and popular Nursery School and offer Ballet, French, Art and Jo Jingles – all at no extra charge.
Mealtimes are a highly social activity, with children helping to prepare snacks, clear away and helping the younger ones. Although the children bring in their own lunches, we offer hot soup in the winter to keep out the chill. Also a freshly cooked high tea is available for those staying with us until later. The morning and afternoon snack is included in the fee cost.
Traditions
We have established a number of new traditions at Farley such as a proper Nativity, in Church, and without lobsters! We hold a Dads Breakfast every year around Father’s Day; it’s a great day for Fathers to bring the children and share a meal with the other Dads and have a (very competitive) game of footie, while the Mums have a bit of “me time.”
Sports day is rounded off with a traditional cream tea, served in the marquee but the favourite event is undoubtedly the Farley Festival. Held every two years, we invite all parents to come with their children and camp out in the field, enjoy delicious food al fresco and dance the night away to a lively band.
